Many people dream of reaching Everest, and here at MRU our very own Dr. Slawinski made the trek, and left with an experience of a lifetime from the most adverse of circumstances. In the spring of 2015, after planning and training for half a year, Raphael traveled to the north side of Mt. Everest to attempt to climb a new route without supplementary oxygen. A few weeks in, his trip was interrupted by the tragic earthquake in Nepal. While no one was injured on the north side of the mountain, the event effectively ended their expedition and occasioned much soul searching, with sometimes uncomfortable conclusions.
