In honour of Freedom To Read Week join author Raziel Reid for a discussion on boundaries in CanLit, the oppression of Young Adult literature, and book burning in the 21st century where the flicker of flames have been replaced by the whistle of the Twitter bird.

Reid’s debut novel When Everything Feels like the Movies won the 2014 Governor General’s Literary Award for Children’s Literature, a category which has since been renamed by the Canada Council for the Arts as the Governor General’s Literary Award for Young People’s Literature. The change comes after the circulation of a petition to revoke When Everything Feels like the Movies of its award over the graphic content. The petition gained international media attention and attracted European publishers. Reid has spent the past year abroad and offers insight into the difference between the Canadian and European markets, and the future of subversive literature in the internet era.
